Safe Sex

What is safe sex?

Safe sex is using protection to make sure you and your partner reduce the chance of becoming pregnant &/or transmitting STD’s (sexually transmitted diseases).

What types of contraception are available?

There are condoms, the pill, intrauterine devices (IUDs), implant injections and emergency contraception.

Which type of contraception is best for me?

Different types of contraception are best suited for different types of protection. If you are unsure which contraceptions to be using discuss with a parent, GP or pharmacist.

Will all types of contraception provide protection against STD’s?

Not all types of contraception protect you from STD’s as some do not provide a barrier to stop the disease spreading. Also some STD’s are passed through skin to skin contact, not just from having sex.
